Can our personalities be changed?
Sometimes we may find that there are some disadvantages in our personality. As we all want to improve ourselves and become a better person, we will try to change our personalities for the better. Is it possible? I think the question is a little complicated and I will explain from two aspects: the inborn personality and the acquired personality.
The inborn personality literally means that it is born with you. It sets its root very deep in your heart, just like eating and sleeping. When you are hungry, you will want to find something to eat without thinking. And when you are sleepy, you will want to go to bed for a sleep without thinking. The way your inborn personality influences your behavior is the same. For example, if your personality makes you easy to get angry, you are very likely to lose your temper without thinking about the bad results. And since it doesn’t give you the time to think, it becomes very hard for you to change the inborn personality.
However, the acquired personality is not as hard to change as the inborn personality. The acquired personality is formed after you are born. When you are brought up by your parents, their behavior influences your acquired personality. And when you get along with your friends, their behavior influences your acquired personality. Since your acquired personality can be influenced by other people, why can’t you change it yourself?
The inborn personality is hard to change, but the acquired personality can be changed. So if the problem comes from the inborn personality, we should try to ease the disadvantage. And if the problem comes from the acquired personality, we can change our personality for the better. Thus, we can improve ourselves.
When we find our dissatisfied characters, we may want to change ourselves since everyone wants to be a better person. After reading your blog , I understand that our inborn characters cannot be changed while our acquired personalities can be changed.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, happy birthday!~
I think it is obvious that our personalities can be changed. I used to be a shy person when I am in high school, whose face immediately turns red the time he stands up and answers a question. But now I think I am a bit more courageous and that is where my personalities have changed. Just imagine what will us be like in the future?
ReplyDeleteAs you said days before and what zhao said above, i reckon that our personalities actually can be changed , no matter outside or inside. if we are determined to change some traits, we will control our tempt and change ways of behaving. and I think the trait that it is difficult change is about our mind. it is natural for us to think in a certain way when we become old. just personal opinion.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is really hard for us to change our personalities. I used to be a stubborn person. When I came across with a problem in studying, I did not want to ask anybody for help. Maybe it is good for me to think by myself, but it usually wastes a lot of time. So I am trying my best to change my bad personalities.
ReplyDeleteI think our inborn personalities can also be changed. Maybe they are not as easy as the acquired personalities to be changed, but if we struggle to control our mind, we can overcome some inborn personalities. Nevertheless, if we do not try hard when we face the difficulty, we cannot change anything. I believe that anything is possible!
ReplyDeleteI think one may be able to change his personality but there is no need to change it deliberately. Because I think if one changed his personality it is like to change to another person. Everyone has their own special way to live which make the world interesting.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it is true that we acquire personality traits from our parents and we are also influenced by our environment. As we grow and mature we may realise that certain aspects of our behaviour need changing. I don't know if we can change what we are born with. I suppose we can modify those aspects of our peronality traits that we are not happy with. However, how do we know which aspects of our personality are inborn and which are nurtured?
