Have you ever questioned what determines our personality? Have you ever wondered why people born in near period may have quite similar personalities? For example, among artists, there are more of them born in the spring than the sum of the number of artists born in the other three seasons. There have been lots of different theories trying to explain such phenomena. But so far, no agreement has been achieved. As for some scientists, actually, they particularly incline to think that the location where the sun is when we were born can have some affects.
In fact, it is now a consensus that the weather can have some influence on our moods. When it is sunny, we would feel happier, and when it is cloudy, we may feel quite depressed. Whether a person is normally an optimist or a pessimist is the most transparent character of one’s personality. Due to some scientific research, the season of our birthday may largely influence our inborn personality. According to a report from a UK scientist, those women who were born in May in the north semaphore tend to be more impulsive while women born in the November may be more reasonable. In addition, men born in spring are usually more persistent than the others. Another research among 14000 children in UK implies that people born in autumn is more talented in sports while those in spring are more intellectually outstanding. Besides, for people above 50, the relationship between longevity and the season they were born in is more unbelievable. Due to a survey from Australia, those born in October and December have 7 months longer average longevity than those from April and June. On top of that, experts from Harvard say that babies born in winter have larger size of head and tend to be more intellectual. Psychologists from Sweden say that people born during February and April have 5% to 10% risk of going insane than others.
All those analyses above were concluded from large amount of surveys, so somehow this theory is quite convincing. Some researchers think that the aspects that cause those differences may be the temperature, the amount of rain and the intensity of sunshine etc. Professor Huety has been doing researches on such issues for more than ten years. He started to take notice of this phenomenon since the survey on cases of citizens from Umea, a city in Sweden that committed suicide. Umea suffers from extreme change of days and nights that it’s the place where the rate of committing suicide is the highest in the world. Digging into this case deeper, professor Huety found out that the percentage of some elements is quite different among people who were born in different periods. Because being exposed to the sun would make our organs produce certain chemicals thus it would have influence on the growth of our brains and therefore we constitute different personalities.
But all in all, no one is destined to be a pessimist or an optimist. We may somehow born to have the incline to have certain personalities, but you can still choose your own attitude towards life. Born in March, like me, means we have quite high risk of going insane but it is still up to us to decide whether to have fate control us or do as Beethoven to take the fate by throat.
It is amazing that these factors could influence our personalities. I am totally agree that no one is destined to be some kind of a certain type of person, and it is our attitude towards our life that changes our life.
ReplyDeleteI think it depends. If you know NBA, you will know that Allen Iverson was born from a poor black American family but he finally turned out to be a famous basketball star. Kobe Bryant was born in a rich Italian family and he fianlly succeeded too. There are so many people in the world and so many ways of life that you cannot investigate each of them. What makes us? I don't think I need an answer.
ReplyDeleteSometimes some nature factors could affect our personality, but I think this kind of influence is quite small. After all when people are born at the same time and the same place, they will not be the same in the future. So I think the most important factor is the environment where we grow up.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting topic. If what you said is true, it can be the evidence of constellation theory which suggests that people born in different month share some common characteristics. I think it is possible for people I know who born at a certain period time do have many similarities.
ReplyDeleteAmazing as those results may seem, I do not really believe it. I think the personality is a result of both the parents' gene and the environment one is raised up. the accuraies of those researches are not so convincing
