Recently there have been several discussions on whether zoo is good or bad for animals in the class, and some of my classmates said zoo was just like a prison and we should close zoos. In my opinion, zoo should never be closed and we should try to improve the situation of zoos.
Zoo is home for many endangered animals. In the zoos, animals need not bear hunger and coldness, and animals can live more easily and avoid extinction in the zoo. If there is no zoo, then where should the endangered animals go? Maybe you call it law of nature, but the variety of animals is very important for us human. We can distill some precious material from these animals, have fun watching them and so on. Could you imagine you had never seen birds flying or fishes swimming because they had died out? If we close all the zoos, and the animals die out due to lack of protection, then that would be the situation our descendants would facing.
When the water is polluted, we did not just stop drinking, instead, we tried to improve the quality of water. Similarly, the condition of zoos now is not good enough, what we should do is not just close the zoos, instead, we should try to improve the condition of zoos. We should build zoos where animals live comfortably and naturally, letting them enjoy and benefit life in such prison.
Zoo is good for animals, but not good enough. We should try to build better zoos, bot close them.
Sometimes I am wondering the reason that we protect animals is for animals or for ourselves?
ReplyDeleteAt the zoo of Chongqing, animals were put in different cages and far from visitors; at Singapore zoo, although animals were not in cages, their elbowroom were very small....
Therefore, sometimes I do not really understand the purpose of zoos.
I agree that zoos is a good place to save endangered species, but the fact is that many zoos keep not only endangered species but also many other common animals. As for these animals, zoos may not be their safe haven but prison.So compared with zoos, I think nature reserve is a better place for these common animals, which is similar to their nature habitat.
