Brand new feeling

And he was always quietly arrayed,

And he was always human when he talked,

But still he fluttered pulses when he said,

“Good morning ,”and he glittered when he walked,

And he was rich—yes, richer than a king,

And admirably schooled in every grace:

In fine, we thought that he was everything

To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,

And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;

And Richard Cory, one clam summer night,

Went home and put a bullet though his head.

Mr. Wilson led us to appreciate the western poem above this morning, which was a brand new experience and a brand new feeling.

Although several lines of the poem were missing, I got rough understanding. In my initial opinion, the reason that Mr. Cory committed suicide is he had nothing to pursue, no dream to dream about. He was a man with almost everything—wealth, gentle character and even attractive smile. However, “we”, those people around Mr. Cory had much to pursue because they live a not so “perfect” life. They held dreams which involved pursuing better life. Above all, I thought human should be inspired by dreams.

In sharp contrast, the illustration is distinct with my idea. The professor analyzed that the giant gap between “we” and Mr. Cory resulted in the death of Mr. Cory, because the gap blocked the interaction between “we” and Mr. Cory. Loneliness filled up him, and he had no one to turn to when he meant to impressive interaction. The tragedy can be avoided!

Even though we do not share similar opinion, but we all concern about the cause and I indeed wish the desperate situation won’t happen. We can omit the gap, and give best bless to people around!
