Introduction of Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was the second children in her rich family. Her father and her brother are both famous lawyers and their family atmosphere is quite open.
Once, she had a chance to receive a good education in Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, however, after two weeks study, she quit school and never went back to classroom again.
When she was in 24, the most wonderful age of a female, she fell in love with Charles Wadsworth, the famous poet. Nevertheless, Charles Wadsworth had already been married and was not attracted by Emily. Maybe this reason made Emily heart-broken and become solitary, because due to record, during 1860 to 1870, Emily never left her home even for a short trip. With time going by, Emily became more and more unsociable, and she should refuse to visit her brother who lived nearby, and let along other visitors.
Since she was always alone by herself, there is little information about Emily.
How does Emily Dickinson become so famous?
It was Lavinia, Emily Dickinson’s younger sister, who found Emily’s more than one thousand poetries in a box after the death of Emily. Lavinia was rather shocked because when Emily was alive, no more than 10 poetries were published. Due to Lavonia’s attempt, all of Emily’s poetries published successfully. Surprisingly, Emily’s poetries received a huge welcome from both average person and critics, and therefore, Emily Dickinson became widely known.
Emily Dickinson’s poetries focus on death, permanence, nature, love and philosophy.
Here, I want to recommend a very good poetry to all of you, which I learnt in my high school.
Over the fence
Strawberries - grow-
Over the fence -
I could climb - if I tried, i know -
Berries are nice!
But - if I stained my apron -
God would certainly scold!
Oh dear, I guess if he were a boy -
He'd - climb - if he could!
He'd - climb - if he could!
As a gentle girl, the narrator in this poetry does not dare to climb over the fence. Though there are nice strawberries over the fence, but because she would stain her apron and this against the principles of a gentle girl. It is too rude for her to do this. Although she has the ability to do what she desires, but she holds some misgivings in her heart, and be worried of being blame. However, boys are different and they are free to do what they want.
I think, the poem over the fence is quite interesting and kind of from a children's hand. The feeling in it is pure and sincere. I feel refreshed when i first read it.
