job is not dream

I used to think dream is linked with a certain job. When I was little, I wanted to be a scientist. When I was in high school, I hoped to be a translator. But now, I am more likely to be an engineer in the future. No matter what I want to be, I always consider a certain job as my dream. However, recently I realized that I was wrong at all--job is not equal to dream.
The reason why I desire a certain job is not about the job itself, but about other things that attach to this job, such as good reputation, good salary, comfortable life and self-content. However, they can also be obtained in other ways besides a certain job. Therefore, a certain job is not what I really want, in another word, not my dream. Instead, those things attached to the job are my real dream, while job is just a means to get them.
After sorting it out, I no longer feel sorry that I changed my wanted job many times. As long as I know what I really want, whatever kind of job does not bother me very much. In fact, since the environment is changing and I gradually have a better and better understand of myself, it is sensible to change my wanted job.
I believe I am not the only person who is bothered with this problem. Always we think of a certain job as our dream. For example, we want to do a certain job, so we choose a certain college and a certain faculty. When we were young, we just spoke out a wanted job if asked about our dreams by others, because we thought it was far away from us and we needn’t worry about it. But now we have grown up and we should have a clear idea of what we really want.
I have already found it. Wish you good luck!

  1. In my view, job is not the thing we really care but what kind of life we want. As I know, few people can treat their jobs as their interests. Thus, most people work for money, because money can provide a lot of things, including delicious food, a big house, a beautiful car, which could satisfy them. Through this way, a certain job can make our dreams for good lifestyle come true. It is how a job related to our dreams I think.

  2. Life is still confusing for me now. I was sure that I wanted to be a scientist or a researcher in the past, before I went to university. but now I really do not know what I really want. I am not that certain to be a scientist or a researcher. I am now trying to find out my dream.

  3. I agree with you strongly. As for me, jobs is a burden but a tool to make a living. I hate working even if i am quite interested in a certain job. I have a dream that after making enough money, i will retire and find a house near both the ocean and a forest. I will wander int e forest and go fishing even though i hardly succeed to catch a fish. I will do what i like and want to do. i can sleep the whole day or keep awake the whole day. This is my dream.

  4. In my view, dream is related to " interest", but work refers to "money". Dream is what you want to do while work is something you must do. Therefore, dream is fantastic , but work is dull and boring. Nevertheless, your major does not 100% stands for your future job, so do not worry about it anymore.

  5. In my opinion, dreams vary from person to person. Different people have different pursuit. Some people dream to be rich. Some people long to become famous. Some people are just interested in something and they only want to do something related to it. Now that your dream is not about habit, there is no need to confuse yourself with jobs. For those who are crazy about something, they may also do something else first for some reasons. But I think they can still go back to their initial interest, whatever, as long as dream is there.

  6. Do not worry about so much in my view, with getting older, i think we are more realistic, even though we set a routine that we would follow, maybe it will be changed the other day. when i was young , i was really fond of those soldiers and police, so i dreamed to be a traffic policeman, armed policeman, a sharp-shooter, even desire to be in SWAT team or CIA. haha , but they were native dreams which we seldom have now. step by step , everyone will know what they want actually.

  7. You should not feel sorry that you have changed your wanted jobs many times. A person life is composed of many phases, as for different phases, it is quite normal that people have different desires. It is a kind of demonstration that you have grown up and have another view to this world. When you confirm what you really wanted, just make effort to achieve it.

  8. Dear Chen Zhe

I envy you for having good classmates who gave you good advice.

Try your best to enjoy everything you are doing at whatever stage of your life.

There are many things/changes in life where the only thing we can control is our attitude towards these changes.
