I used to hear people complain about misunderstandings that are caused by culture differences, but on that time I could not make out of it. Now I am in Singapore and have experienced it by myself.
The thing happened like this. One day I went out with my friends for shopping .Because of the coming of Chinese New Year, we bought a lot of things such as food ,fruits, new clothes and so on . Unconsciously, a whole day had already past. Carrying the heavy things, all of us became very tired and we did not want to walk any more. So instead of walking to the faraway MRT station, we were going to take a bus. It was the first time for us to take a bus .Certainly we did not know that the bus would not stop at the bus station unless someone presses the button. As an unexpected end, we got off at the bus stop which is a little far from our dormitory, and with the heavy things we had bought walking back.
Owing to the differences of countries' cultures, unexpected things happen quite often. It can be seen that knowing the cultures is very important for us.
I am afraid that it is not a kind of cultural difference, definitely it is different, but no more than policy difference. Appreciate your story!
ReplyDeleteCulture refers to the way of life.In this case, what is being referred to is the way of life in Singapore - how things are done or practised. When you are not sure what to do, observe. When in doubt, ask!
ReplyDeletei have a similar experience as you, but i managed to get to ETON hall with the help of a kind local. i think when you get lost, you can ask eldery people for help.
