Dove is a well-known chocolate brand, and there is a romantic story behind the name ‘Dove’. It was the spring of 1919, when Princess Charlotte from Luxembourg married Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. It was a big ceremony so that the 18 year-old boy Leon, who worked for Luxembourg for years, was very busy during that time. His worked for such a long time that his hands were full of wounds. One day, when he was washing the dishes an angle voice came into his ear ‘That must be hurt, isn’t it?’ This beautiful sound was made by Princess Bazzar who was a distant relative of Prince Felix. It was the first time these two youths met.
After the lonely boy Leon met the kind Princess Bazzar, they became very close soon. The ice-cream was luxury at that time, so Leon made ice-cream for Princess Bazzar late at night. They ate ice-cream and talked with each other happily every night and fell in love with each. However, due to the big gap of status, neither of them showed the love in their heart.
Tragedies always happened to beloved ones like Leon and Bazzar. Few months after, Luxembourg decided to ask Princess Bazzar to marry a prince from another country to gain the friendship between the two countries. Leon was restless when he heard the news and got more restless after a few days without seeing Princess Bazzar at all. His last chance to connect to Princess Bazzar was the ice-cream he made. So he used hot chocolate to write ‘Dove’ on the ice-cream which stand for ‘Do you love me?’ However, what Leon had not consider about is the hot chocolate made the ice-cream melt and when the ice-cream was serve to Princess Bazzar , she could not figure out the letter on it. Leon missed the last chance and Princess Bazzar left him to married the prince from another country. Leon deeply regretted and he decided to make chocolate with ‘Dove’ on every piece. That is the origin of ‘Dove’—Do you love me?
this is a tragetic but meaningful story. i did not know there is such an attractive story relating to DOVE. thanks for your good story.
ReplyDeletelove can still be bitter even if it meets sweet.
ReplyDeleteA touching story which I think is made up by the Dove Cooperation. The meaning of dove makes the Dove chocolates a great success....But I have another question, we can see different kinds of Dove shampoo in any supermarket, do they have the same meaning?
ReplyDeleteSuch a good story! Many thanks to Mr Leon for his notable contribution of creating the useful word 'DOVE'.
ReplyDeleteOH...Another sad love story. I like it as much as I love the chocolate. And Mr. Zhao, I didn't notice it though I'm using DOVE body care. But I don't think it has anything to do with this chocolate brand and its love story.
ReplyDeleteI use the “DOVE ” soap every day. I never know it should be such a sorrow love story behind the name “DOVE”. I think Zhao Yue ‘s idea is very funny: make a story in order to increase the sale.
ReplyDeletei am really confused by some details of the story. you didn't make it clear that what exactly did the boy do in a palace, especially what a 18-year-old boy could do.in a place like the palace, how can someone like the boy meet someone like a princess so casually? shouldn't the princess be followed by a lot of people and her behavior be restricted very much rather than having the freedom to stay with some unkown young man for a long time? sorry to disturb the romantic atmsphere.
ReplyDeleteAnother lovey-dovey fairy-tale. But it is a clever one for commercial purpose. There are lots of gaps in the story and some unnecessary characters. Did you make up the story?
ReplyDeleteit is the first time that i hear the story about dove, no matter whether it is true, i think the ending is kind of upset, why there are so many examples show that people in love cannot get together in the end?? hai~~ haha
ReplyDeleteLove is the mother of many things. Love has its negative sides, but also has its postive sides. I hope there are fewer tragedies, more commdies.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful love story~~~I just cannot understand why he do not tell her directly. Love need to speak out I think, if you want to make romance you'd better to make sure she gets your message.
ReplyDeleteI cannot find any story like this from Dove web site. However, I notice that this story is very popular in Chinese web sites, but not in western countries. I doubt if the story is true.
ReplyDeleteThe only trace from Dove Web site about its Love story is that Leon tried to make ice cream with chocolate cover for his son's safety. http://www.dovechocolate.com/aboutDove
