My awearness of remembering words

I’m now more and more realizing the importance for me to remember English words, because I am finding that there are so many unfamiliar words to me that I come across. My unknowing of those words made me feel very uncomfortable, even can it keep me from the main idea of a passage.
Days before, I thought I was in a new English learning circumstance which is totally different from that in China. I thought I should put most my efforts into listening and speaking, but not into new words reciting as in China, to avoid becoming a so called “mute English learner. Yes, I was right, but I ignored one thing that remembering words is still important.
In the first days of English studying, most of our storages of English words are almost same. But as time passing by, I found that there were many words that others knew while I didn’t, for the reason that they kept the new words in mind they had met while I didn’t. What’s more, when I read something, I couldn’t get the meaning sometimes because too many new words exit. Also when I watch English movies, I still need to turn to Chinese translated caption but not the English ones for I can’t understand the words, which is no difference between that when I was in China. When friends in China asked me whether my English is very good (for Chinese), I had to say no because I know no more words than them. I was ashamed to improve so little when I have been staying in Singapore for such a long time.
Fortunately, I am now realizing the problem. I will not consider that I could remember words naturally after meet them several times. Nothing would come to my memory unless I force them to do so. From this day, I am to take down new words I’ve met, and spare time to remember them. I hope I will soon find that I am not so lacking of words resources in my mind! I hope I can say that my knowledge of English has changed as it supposed to be to my friends and parents! I hope there won’t be so many barriers when I read English books and watch English movies!

  1. It will be easier if you come across some words several times. What's more, noting down some key words is also quite useful.

  3. Sometimes I have the same feelings as you. We come across quite a lot of new words everyday. It is not possible for us to remember every word. So what we should do is just remember the words which often appear and I think memorize words while writing them is quite useful.

  4. I think I am also poor at English word-base. But luckily, nowadays I found a kind of software which could help me to memorize vocabularies in a better way .I will share it with you tomorrow. Let us work harder in English course, and only in this way can we improve our English abilities.

  5. Yeah, memorizing words is really a tough task for me. But what I can offer to you is a method that can make you more effectively in memorizing words. The method, which is very obvious, is reading!! Nothing becomes permanent unless you keep doing it. As far as I am concerned, I can remember the word easily if i can come across them many times~
