The strict censorship blocking the development of culture

As we all know, the censorship of literature and video works is very strict in China, and I think the strict censorship is blocking the development of culture. When the writers or directors work on their jobs, they have to think about whether the works can pass the strict judgment. In this way, they actually lose the freedom to express what they want to show.

For example, if these video works were created in China, they might be murdered right after they were born. And reasons may be as follows.

Prison Break: How can the prisoners be more brilliant than the policemen? How it becomes those non-communist people’s turn to save the country? How can the president play a negative role?

Inside Man: It is too ridiculous for the police to miss the criminal finally.

The Pursuit Of Happiness: How can the government leave the poor people hard to make a living in such a harmonious society?

The Godfather: It is not realistic that gangs exist in China.

The Hunt: The idea is positive but there are too many dirty words that should not come from a young boy’s mouth.

… …

How can you have the expectation that writers and directors come up with great works with their thinking locked up by the censorship? Censorship is necessary in some way but we also need books and movies that reflect reality. I really wish that there can be as many Chinese books and movies popular in the world as all kinds of products made in China someday. And I think that is the real time that China becomes powerful not only in GDP.

  1. Fully agree with you!I think the censorship is a bit too strict, however, our government is smart and I believe they can come up with some better ideas when our economy becomes stronger.

  2. Well, I think our government has its reason to do so because media is actually a mean that governors use to control people's mind. If such movies or books appear frequently, it will gradually lower the government's position in people's minds and this will have bad influence on the government even the whole country.

  3. Haha, interesting reasons for censoring those videos. I think it is true that the stringent censorship restrict the development of movie industry in China, but I do not agree that it has much impact on the development of culture. Few of the movies about Chinese culture are censored, I think.

  4. because of so strict censorship , we have already missed so many wonderful movies created by the us or other western countries, however, everything has two sides. we also get some benefit from the strict censorship. if we want to watch movies , we can also log on the western websites. haha the culture also leads to the result. anyway, i hope our culture can be more open.

  6. i think the most important thing for china's film industry is that it should have a ranking system so that different people can go for different films and childern have a healthy environment.

  7. Censorship is a necessary evil. Again, the level or censorship must go in tandem with the level of maturity of thought among the citizens in the country.
