As we all know, in Singapore, there are a lot of immigrants from all over the world. They come here not only bringing their religions but also spreading them to other people. Hence, the religions here are quite multiple.
The first kind of religion is Buddhism. As for the people who believe in Buddhism, they are concerned with the balance of yin and yang and they are also used to going to Chinese temples for worshipping. Ancestral worship is common and the spirits of the dead are appeased with offerings. Second, most of the Malays in Singapore are Muslims; meanwhile, there are still a few of people who come from India and China are also Muslims. This kind of religion involves praying five times every day and eating food which is special prepared. The third kind of religion is Hinduism, nearly all the people who believe in this kind of religion are Indians and the early temples are still the central points of rituals and festivals. Another kind of religion is Christianity, people are able to find different styles of Christian churches easily in Singapore. They were actually established with the arrival of various missionaries and everyone has the freedom to visit them.
Together with Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism, Christianity is considered one of the four main religions today. There is quite a large number of people who believe religions on this island. Besides, there are also many other religions existing in Singapore. No matter how many kinds of religions are here, there will not be any possibility of argument, because of people's respect to each other.
i am sorry but I have to point out that Buddhism does not include the concept of yin and yang.it is the Taoism that does. These too are totally different religions except they are both popular in China. And when you say there will be no possibility of argument, you are too absolute.
ReplyDeleteI do not think i will follow any religion in the future, because in my opinion, religions restrict too much on the followers. i do not deny the probability of god's existence and respect them but not beg them.
ReplyDeleteI hope that living in Singapore has given you a first-hand experience of how people from different culture and religion live harmoniously.
