It is been 10 days since my “company”, a small print house, was established. Running such a funny company is not an easy thing.
At the very beginning, I buy a printer the Saturday before last Saturday with the purpose of printing some material for myself, because I find the books in Singapore are too expensive and I cannot find many books I want. However, shortly after I carry the heavy box of my printer from Vivo City to Eton Hall, a lot of people get to know I have bought a printer and some of them come to my dormitory and want me to help them print their paragraph. To be honest, I am very happy when I realize I can help them solve their problems because I know many people need to queue for a very long time before they can print their paragraphs in the co-op in NUS, but a day later I am fed up with it because they come to me to ask for a print whenever they like and I cannot concentrate on my own study. After a short thinking I come up with a good idea that I put up a notice on the front side of my door. I give a clear explanation of the open hours, price and some specific requirements in the notice and try my best to deliver this message to as many people as possible. After doing this I think I can take my life into normal, but I am totally wrong.
Though I have posted a notice and give a clear explanation, some of y friends do not pay much attention to the notice, for example, in the notice it is stated that the open hour is during 10:00pm to 11:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and during 8:00am to 10:00am on Sunday, but only a few of them have taken note of this. Therefore, many of them are mistaken that I will also print for them during 10:00pm to 11:00pm on Sunday as on other three days. They come to my dormitory with a good mood because they think they will not have to waste a lot of time when queuing and leave with a lot of complaints because they think I am not responsible and play a trick on them.
Moreover, running such a printer house puts into financial trouble. I print a page at a price of 5 cents, but the cost of a page is about 4 cents. One day I print the same paragraph three times and I lose 10 cents that day, with the profit included.
Running such a small “company” is not an easy thing and I suffer a great deal. I think I have a lot more knowledge to learn and I learn a lot from this experience.
First, I must express my thanks to you since I always print something using your printer. Without your printer, it must cost me a lot of time to queue at the shop in the Centre Library. Then ,I should say your behavior do bring a big problem to you: It takes your own time and you just make little profit. Besides ,I think you should reconsider your business so that it will not occupy much of your time and you can help others at the same time.
