My seventh blog: a one day long workshop program
This week, the topic is the tasty and preference. However, I prefer to talk something about the workshop program which impressed me very much.
There were some small activities for us to train our leadership and teamwork. The first activity was to find friends. Everyone had his own value, and might be worth 50cents or 1 dollar. We could not ignore ourselves and must be aware that we were able to be more useful if we could work together to make the account larger. We also realized the saying during this game, that Game reflects reality, and game reflects characters. When we cannot reach the amount, some people chose to drag others into our group. There was much fun as well.
The second game was the leg pyramid. First we thought we needed more people to thicken the foundation. The thicker it was, the more steadily it became. With the idea, we agreed to make many boys at the bottom. However, the idea made us the lowest with the height of 1.78 cm. after the first try , we realized that it was not heavy at all when we reached high, because each foot was lifted by others, we did not need so many people to make the foundation, which was a waste of resource. Then, the small girls were put at the bottom, and strong boys hugged the light girls to put them high. One by one, we reach the ceiling with the height of 2.80cm. Though it was obvious to show the teamwork, I want to stress the importance of it again. For us studying in NUS, we have few chances to finish something together, so it is kind of difficult to let us be united and fight for the same goal. Now we stress individual more, I think.
The third game was to throw five balls at one time, and we must finish the circle with each one touching the ball for five times. We could not throw the ball to people beside us. Maybe it sounds simple, we could not finish the task at last. We talked much about the strategy and tried few times. The shortcoming was that we could not focus on the ball we needed to take and get rid of the bordering from other groups. The whole group created the nervous atmosphere. Talking wasted us lots of time so that we hardly put what we thought about into practice. After that, we felt a little upset. When it was time to conclude, we came up with our feedback. I considered it important that we should focus on what we are doing.
The fourth game was to stand in one hula hoop for all of us. Specifically, all of our feet should be put in the hula hoop. And I thought it was not very difficult. However, some people also made some sacrifice. They allowed others to lie on their back to spare more room for others.
The last game which impressed me much was that we five groups must co-operate to move from one side to the other with feet in the few hula hoops and the strict rules. At that time, we forgot whether we knew each other or not, we just took it in heart that we were a whole group. We needed to help each other with our best. it was really hot when we hugged together, but in such a terrible situation, people showed their respect to others, especially when somebody broke the rules so that we had to start again . We could not speak, or make any sounds because of the rules. With time passing by, we finally found the useful and effective way to reach our destination. From this game, I found a lot actually, though it was a little boring for us adults. The teamwork showed all the way along. The lesson about the leadership, the strategies, the co-operation and some feelings were all useful in the future work, in my opinion.
Despite the fact that it is tiring and kind of boring, I enjoyed it as well.
Team building games may appear childish to most of us because of the physical activity. However, effective leadership and good team work depend on everyone doing the right thing together. Such group dynamics cannot depend solely on mental alertness or understanding.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds really interesting to participate these activities. Now teamwork really plays an important role in our society. During the game I think all of you can have a deep understanding of teamwork. And I also think that it will be an advantage for you in you future.
ReplyDeleteactually i found this workshop experience very impressive. it's not only very interesting, but also a great opportunity to expand our social circle.i got to know someone i never notice though we live together.besides,i learned some valuable spirits from some individuals.i think such kind of activities will surely promote the confidence and the spirit of teamwork to us.
ReplyDeleteAre these activities of the Given program? It seems that you had a great time and at the same time learn a lot about teamwork and leadership which is very good!
ReplyDeleteSince we have received the Chinese education system for such a long time ,I think it is a really good activity for us to reconsider about some personalities such as"cooperation ","teamwork","orientation of service" and so on.Through this activity ,I learned a lot and I think it would benefit my whole life and I could do better at "my teaching career".Thanks for your blog about the workshop that we participated together.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that the GIVE workshop is really fascinating. Such a pity it is that they don't involve me in to teach Chinese Calligraphy. They will definitely regret it because they don't know my ancestors are Wang Xizhi~
ReplyDeleteTeamwork is very significent from all times. There are many kinds of things that cannot be done by single person. Therefore, the ability to be able to cooperate with others and things with others together is very important. And the games mentioned above can train the ability. They are useful.
ReplyDeleteAll work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Games are good for us. Games help us understand ourselves as well as the world better.
